Life has taken an unimaginable turn for longtime Perlo Superintendent Mark Helling and his family. Just weeks ago, Mark’s son, Josh, suffered a devastating and critical injury after an extreme sport speed wing accident in Switzerland. After colliding midair with an unmarked cable, Josh fell nearly 200 feet down a rocky Swiss slope. He is currently in the ICU, having undergone multiple surgeries on nearly every part of his body — with more ahead.
The road to recovery is long and complex. Once stable enough to travel, Josh will require specialized medical air transport back to the United States. In the meantime, insurmountable medical expenses have placed an unbelievably overwhelming financial burden on Mark and his wife as Josh’s medical insurance has not been accepted overseas and they are facing raw costs—costs that climb daily, in addition to unplanned travel and lodging costs for family and Josh’s fiancé.
Josh’s survival is nothing short of miraculous. His resilience is inspiring, and so is the unwavering strength of his family and fiancé.
Mark has been a cornerstone of the Perlo team for nearly two decades. In 2024, he was honored as our Employee Spotlight for exemplifying the Perlo Practice, “Do What’s Right.” His honesty, work ethic, and perseverance have earned him the respect of his clients and colleagues alike, who describe him as a dedicated, dependable, positive and loyal friend, and a builder with relentless drive. Mark is the kind of teammate who shows up for others — always. Now, it’s our turn to show up for him.
Mark would never ask for help, and we know he’ll be humbled by this outreach. But in this moment, he needs the support of the Perlo community — and we want him to know he can count on us, just as others have been able to count on him.
If you, your family, friends, or colleagues are able to offer support — whether financial or spiritual — it would mean the world to Mark and his loved ones. Contributions can be made through the GoFundMe link below:
