Perlo Acquires Reimers & Jolivette

A Strategic Move to Enhance Capabilities and Expand Market Reach

We are thrilled to announce that as of July 1, 2024, Perlo has acquired Reimers & Jolivette Construction (R&J), a move that marks a significant milestone in our journey to better serve our clients and strengthen our position in the construction industry. This acquisition brings together two companies with a shared commitment to excellence, innovation, and client satisfaction.

About Reimers and Jolivette

R&J was founded in 1922 and has built a stellar reputation for delivering high-quality construction projects across various sectors in the Portland area. Known for their expertise in both commercial and residential construction, R&J has consistently demonstrated a commitment to quality, safety, and customer service.

Some of their recent projects include a variety of work with PGE, Northwest Natural, Reed College, and the Archdiocese of Portland, among others.

Employing more than a dozen craftsmen, R&J self-performs a wide range of rough and finished carpentry. These skilled carpenters are a big part of their success with historical renovations and occupied spaces. Their attention to detail has led to loyal clients and repeat business that makes up the whole of their work portfolio.  The physical location of R&J’s shop and office near to downtown and the West Hills also provides clients with fast response times in the event of emergency repairs.

In recent years, R&J has been led by Mark Beckius and Scott Prater. Both Mark and Scott will continue to remain in Vice President roles for several more years ahead of their retirement. The R&J name and location in Portland will be maintained under Perlo’s ownership.

Strategic Rationale for the Acquisition

The decision to acquire R&J was driven by several strategic considerations:

Enhanced Capabilities

Combining the technical expertise and resources of both companies will enable us to offer a broader range of services and project types. R&J’s work in downtown high-rise spaces, historical buildings, and higher education, among others, compliments Perlo’s portfolio. Our clients will benefit from a deeper pool of talent, more innovative solutions, and additional service offerings.

High-Rise and Sustaining Work

This acquisition allows us to extend our footprint into the downtown core. While Perlo has completed several tenant improvements within Portland, R&J has a well-established presence in multiple high-rise buildings and downtown core spaces. R&J will now be supplemented with the resources and additional craftspeople that Perlo can provide, and Perlo will benefit from the knowledge and relationships that R&J has built over the last century.

Shared Values and Culture

Both Perlo and R&J share a commitment to integrity, quality, and client-focused service, as well as a philosophy that our people and our culture are the most valuable part of our business. Our aligned values and culture will facilitate a seamless integration process, ensuring that we continue to deliver exceptional results for our clients.

What This Means for Perlo and R&J’s Clients

For both Perlo and R&J’s clients, this acquisition means a continuation of the service and quality they have come to expect. Our joint efforts will only enhance our abilities to serve projects both large and small. Our combined team of professionals is more equipped than ever to meet the diverse needs of our clients, from large-scale commercial developments to intricate residential projects, service work, and renovations.

As Mark Beckius tells it, ‘We didn’t pick a buyer lightly. We wouldn’t have sold our company to just anyone. We wanted to make sure that the company we have loved for our entire careers would continue to be the place we’ve always known it to be. With Perlo, we know that will happen, and now it will be with the broader resources that a company of their caliber can provide’.

Looking Ahead

As we move forward with the integration process, our top priority remains our commitment to our people and our clients. We are excited about the opportunities this acquisition presents and are confident that the combined strengths of Perlo Construction and R&J will drive even greater success.

R&J will maintain its current workforce and be led by Perlo’s current Director of Strategic Initiatives, Elissa Looney. As R&J’s Director of Operations, Elissa will lead the R&J team towards further growth and continue to build on the great momentum that the company enjoys today. She will be supported by Perlo’s teams, particularly President Chris Gregg. Both with more than 16 years in the construction industry, they are fully dedicated to the success of R&J and continuing to honor the incredible legacy it has built over time. “I couldn’t be more excited about this venture with R&J. They compliment Perlo so well, and we’re glad they’ll be joining our team,” said Chris.

Elissa, when reflecting on the Perlo and R&J relationship, had this to say: “To date, working with the R&J team has been nothing but amazing. It feels as if we’ve been working together for years, and everyone sees a bright future ahead for both companies’ clients, employees, and trade partners. The process of this acquisition has been enjoyable so far, and I see nothing but the best moving forward. I’m really looking forward to the future.”
