Prepping the site required cement treating the saturated soils beneath the warehouse location as well as removing large cobblestones, crushing onsite, and re-purposing the crushed rock for fill.
The completed warehouse features 40-feet of clear height, an ammonia-based refrigeration system, coolers, freezers, dry goods storage, Quell fire protection system, and 4,000 SF of rail dock. J&D was able to qualify for Energy Trust incentives based on the energy efficient lighting and refrigeration system.
Perlo returned years later to complete a 34,000 SF design-build expansion to this facility. The expansion featured an 875-foot blast cell that was the first of its kind in the area. Additionally, the project saw a conversion of the existing cooler and dry storage spaces to a freezer with the expansion housing the new cooler, dry storage, and cooled truck dock.
