As the first Living Building Challenge (LBC) certified commercial project in Portland, achieving the Material Petal, Mahlum’s updated space is a testament of sustainability. LBC is hailed as the most rigorous sustainable building program in the world. This was achieved utilizing elements such as reclaimed wood from Fort Vancouver and custom curio shelves, as well as the custom front doors wrapped in reclaimed wood to match the surrounding cladding.
The interior structure is exposed, further maintaining its character and preserving part of the building’s history. Their beautiful breakroom features a huge island utilizing Forest Certified Council plywood, quartz countertops and appliances concealed by custom plywood faces. Filled with primarily open office workstations, there are two new large conference rooms, two teleconference rooms, six team spaces, a server room, model room, plotter room and materials library.
